I have seen many horses show improvement with just one massage session. However, each horse is different and depending on the issues at hand, may need several treatments before significant changes are observed. I highly recommend a maintenance regimen of a minimum two sessions per month to maintain the average horse in good condition. For working horses, (example showing, training, school horses, etc.), I recommend weekly sessions to maintain optimum performance and recovery from workouts. For horses with deeper muscular skeletal issues, I determine the frequency based on the needs of the individual horse and owner.
All too often, we wait until a problem rears its ugly head before we realize our horse needs some form of therapeutic intervention. Your horse does not have to have an existing problem to reap the benefits of massage therapy.
Regular maintenance massage can provide your horse with numerous benefits not associated with an existing injury and is a powerful preventive measure and a wonderful way to keep your horse in tiptop shape.
Some issues that my clients of come to me with are short striding, stiffness and movement, not picking up a particular lead, and head shaking, just to name a few.
By addressing these issues early on, we can prevent more serious injuries from occurring and allow the body to rebalance itself.
Everyone is always asking me, why should I get my horse massaged?
Just like humans, horses need it too!
Massage benefits horses in many different ways:
Increased flexibility and range of motion
Immune system support
Improved posture, circulation, Hair coat, muscle tone, and more!
Massage increases the benefits of chiropractic and/or acupuncture as well.
Just like humans, horses bones go out of whack and need to be adjusted due to the surrounding muscles being too tight. Sometimes massage can help this bones/joints go back into place and sometimes an adjustment is needed as the muscles were quite tight and can't be completely worked with massage because you can over do it with massage. Too much massage can actually damage the muscle.
Massage can have a profound effect on the nervous system of the horse. Equine massage can be used to cause the body to release endorphins, which aid in pain relief and a sense of well-being.

Would you be interested in learning how to train your own horse starting from the ground up?
This would occur in a lesson type atmosphere. Once or twice a week for an hour or so in the evenings. Starting with ground work, then saddling, putting the bridle on, driving/tying back, getting on and riding.
Cost would depend on interest. Around $20-30/session. Haul-ins are also welcome at an extra cost.
This would be offered out of King's Korner Equestrian Center located in Stony Plain.
Contact me for more information, we are looking to start this in February.
